Verified a "manufacturer" — and found the real one 40km away.
A European buyer sent an Alibaba-listed "manufacturer" for verification before placing a USD 86k order. The address on the listing was a 14th-floor office in a trading building — two salespeople, no machinery.
I traced the actual production back to a family workshop 40km outside the city. Smaller than claimed, but the owner was the real boss, the price dropped 18%, and quality control sat 30 metres from his desk.
The buyer placed the order with the real factory directly. The "manufacturer" was a middleman who would have outsourced the same workshop at a markup.
